Australia Post welcomes regulatory changes
Hi Team,
Today, my monthly video comes to you on an historic day for Australia Post. Today, the Government announced the changes to our Prescribed Performance Standards and regulations will take effect from Monday, 15 April 2024. This means we have taken another step towards a modernised Australia Post. You can learn more about what this means, and what's next in the below video.
The main thing to know is that now we can really focus on what Australians want: flexible and more reliable parcel deliveries, with enhanced tracking technology and more delivery options. A huge thank you to everyone for getting us this far.
I also highlight some of the great work happening across the business including two important programs launched this past week — #beafriend and #ProjectMe. So please take a few minutes to watch my monthly video below.
Be safe, Be kind
Paul
What has been announced today?
- Today we welcomed changes to the regulations Australia Post, with Prescribed Performance Standards published, which will take effective from Monday, 15 April 2024.
- These changes follow the Federal Government’s first phase reform announcement in December 2023.
- These changes will enable Australia Post to focus on what Australians want most: flexible and more reliable parcel deliveries with enhanced tracking technology and more delivery options.
- We’re now focused on implementing these regulatory changes, including the New Delivery Model (NDM) which will be gradually rolled out until the end of 2025.
What are the reforms we are implementing?
- Letters will begin to be delivered less frequently under a New Delivery Model that will enable posties to deliver more parcels, more often.
- Estimated delivery timeframes for regular and priority letters will change:
- Regular letters and unaddressed mail will be delivered every second business day, while Priority letters, Express Post and parcels will continue to be delivered each business day.
- Australia Post will have an extra day to deliver regular letters.
- The geographic classification of Australia Post retail outlets has been updated based on the latest census data, rather than the 1991 Census data previously used.
- More accurate data will support Australia Post with the monitoring and planning we do every day to respond to customer needs, identify trends and support our network.
- Over the next 12 months Australia Post will be focusing on delivering excellent and innovative customer service, improving the efficiency and sustainability of our parcel deliveries, while bedding down changes to letters delivery.
- Our commitment to serve our customers and communities remains unchanged. We are evolving our business to better meet the needs of our customers and partners.
