How often do I need to give out a MasterCard to my team?

Going above and beyond is not something that happens every day, in fact if gift cards are given out frequently, they have the opposite effect on the team. Some people leaders have suggested they might give our cards once a quarter or a couple of times a year. Other Business Units feel they might give them out every other month. The discretion is at a people leader level.

How do I code and process the gift card in BCard FLEXIPURCHASE?

Using FLEXIPURCHASE code the Australia Post Gift Card by MasterCard purchases for team members as ‘Awards Other’

The GL code that should be used is 3363 AWARDS & OTHER BENEFITS (NON FBT). This GL is already used for all awards issued to employees which are less than $300 in value per employee.

The description should read: Thank you recognition gift card - TEAM MEMBER NAME and employee ID.

How does this impact employees’ Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT)?

Rewards received by you under this program may be subject to Fringe Benefits Tax (“FBT”).

Where the total value of fringe benefits received by you exceeds $2,000 in an FBT year (1 April to 31 March), Australia Post is required to record the grossed-up taxable value of the benefits as a ‘Reportable Fringe Benefits Amount (RFBA)’ on your Income Statement for the corresponding income tax year (ending 30 June) and notify the Australian Tax Office.

This amount does not form part of your taxable income however, the amount is taken into account in assessing you against thresholds that apply when determining liability for tax surcharges and also in assessing eligibility for certain income tested government payments.

Is the purchase of gift cards monitored?

Yes. Central monitoring of the purchase of gift cards will be conducted periodically to ensure the recognition program is operating effectively and in line with our policy and standards.

How do I secure gift cards?

Gift cards are equivalent to cash and must be secured in a locked cabinet, locker, drawer or safe if one is available. Gift cards also have a 16-digit card number which must be kept secure. Please keep cards in original packaging to ensure the card number is kept secure.

We must consider the risk of bribery & corruption when rewarding our staff. Please refer to the Group Anti-bribery and Corruption policy on POGO to ensure rewarding of staff complies with the policy.
