Our work health and safety system of policies, processes and guidelines, is in place to create and support safe workplaces and promote safe work practices. It helps us comply with our obligations under Work Health and Safety legislation.

Work Health and Safety policy

Our Work Health and Safety Policy sets the direction for ensuring our commitment to being safe everywhere flows through to our day-to-day work. We’re committed to striving towards zero harm for everyone we interact with by placing their care and wellbeing at the centre of everything we do.

Work Health and Safety Management System

Our work health and safety management system includes different types of instructions and guidance including:
Work health and safety policy and procedures – these set out the principles and approaches to safety across Australia Post
Safety instructions or safe operating procedures (SOP) – these are step by step safety instructions for equipment and processes that we use at Australia Post
Safety guidance – additional guidance and useful information to help you do your job safely.

Delivery partners and contractors

To assist contractors to understand and meet their obligations, we provide guidance on work health and safety (WHS) requirements for their services. They are required to consider that guidance and then implement appropriate WHS systems and processes within their business.

Contractors must have in place a WHS Plan that shows they have the knowledge, ability, systems and resources to meet their WHS requirements, including keeping records of their WHS activities, and they must ensure that their workers follow the WHS Plan when performing their services.

Further WHS guidance and information is available from State and Territory WHS regulators.

If you want to find out more about a particular procedure, SOP or safety instruction speak to your manager or raise a query for Safety in People Services.
