The Rainbow Peer Support group is part of our commitment to a diverse and inclusive workforce that is reflective of our customers and communities. . Founder Stu Kuhlman wanted this group to be the ‘mate’ our people can share their issues with if they aren’t comfortable approaching their manager or a trained professional. This diverse group provide support from team members to team members – in a confidential way, helping to build trust and provide a listening ear from someone who understands and supports all matters LGBTQIA+. 

Not only is this initiative a great example of inclusivity, it also plays into the trust, safety and empowerment of our people, which we know are the core values central to how we work. Stu – Community

My name is Stu, I’m a cis gay man who came out in the early 90s in Sydney, when life for our community was still very much a challenge! I’ve spent 10 years living in the UK and travelling to counties far and wide and have experienced multiple cultures as a result; and seeing the highs and lows of our community and how far we have come fills me with pride, but seeing how far will still have to go keeps the fire alive in my belly. 

I set up the Rainbow Peer Support group 2 years ago with a simple mission, to provide a mate service to every corner of Australia, so that every person in our business feels they can reach out in confidence to discuss anything they need help with, and no one gets left behind.

Alison – Ally

I have been with Post since 2016 and am currently an Executive Assistant in the Support Office. I am a proud ally and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community, an active member of the PostPride Network, and a member of the PostPride National Communications Team. I was lucky enough to recently go through a Leadership/Change course called ‘Be the Change’ with a company called The Equality Project, who do some amazing work. Through this course, all my experience, opportunities, and relationships, both at work and personally, I feel passionate about supporting the LGBTQIA+ community and want to help foster an environment where everyone feels safe and supported.

Connor – Community

My name is Connor, I am a bisexual transmale who is currently working in the Northern Contact Centre. I have been out as a transmale since 2017, coming out to my friends, family, school and workplace! It wasn't always well received, and I didn't have anyone to turn to for unconditional support in the beginning. I began trying on men's clothes, using my new name in the workplace and using the bathrooms that felt right to me, which was a scary step on its own. 2020 is when I felt comfortable with my support groups to start physically transitioning, and that felt like the start of a beautiful journey. After some more self-exploration, I came out as bisexual in 2020 and have had partners of all genders. 

AusPost has been one of the most open workplaces I have had the privilege to work at, where I was assured that my diversity would not only be accepted, but celebrated. It was recently Trans Day of Visibility, which allowed me to share my story with my team. 

I hope that I can be someone to talk to if you are out and proud, questioning your own identity or just want to ask some questions to support family and friends. I am a completely open book, have no 'conditions' and would love to listen to you and help you get the support you need to go in the right direction.

Hannah – Community

I am a Workplace Rehabilitation Provider based in Melbourne and have been with Australia Post since September 2021. A month before starting, I packed up my entire life in Brisbane, quit my job and moved to Melbourne to live with my girlfriend and her gorgeous blue staffy after a year of long distance. She is now my fiancé and I am now a dedicated fur Mumma who dresses my fur child up in rainbow bandanas to celebrate PRIDE. I feel very blessed to be at a stage in my life where I am proud and comfortable in who I am, I feel safe to be my authentic self (for the most part) and most importantly, I feel confident to advocate for myself and my LGBTQIA+ family. I had the privilege of helping to present a session on ‘How to be an ally’ on IDAHOBIT day 2023 and I am always looking for opportunities to broaden my knowledge about all things LGBTQIA+. I endeavour create a space where you feel safe and heard.
