Rehabilitation

Our aim is to get you back to health and back to work as soon as possible. So we’ve developed our rehabilitation program on the principles below to make sure that happens:

• Early referral for rehabilitation and early assessment of your needs and capabilities, to help build your rehabilitation program
• Including you in the conversation when we’re developing suitable duties
• Developing a rehabilitation program based on your capabilities and using information from you, your treating practitioners and your manager
• Checking in with you during your rehabilitation 
• Making the key focus of your rehabilitation your return to appropriate work, as early as possible

Most work-related injuries or illnesses don’t result in time away from work, or they require only a short time before you’re back to your normal job. But some injuries and illnesses may require workplace rehabilitation and/or a gradual return to work.

Our priorities are to get you back to your normal job, but if this isn’t possible, we’ll look at modifying your job, finding a different job or considering a different workplace, to the extent that it is reasonable to do so.

We look at advice from treating practitioners and Workplace Rehabilitation Providers (WRP) to make that decision, and we keep your work flexible to match your rehabilitation and recovery needs.

You’ll be included in the discussions we have about options for your return to work.

We provide you with a rehabilitation program if you have a work-related injury or illness that has kept you away from work.

A Rehabilitation Case Manager (RCM) should be in touch soon after you report your accident, injury or the onset of your illness, or at the time you submit your claim form. In some cases, your RCM might also be your Workplace Rehabilitation Provider (WRP) who are health professionals.

Together, you’ll develop a rehabilitation program and goals, and have any assessments you need to work out your capabilities for returning to work.

The WRP will develop your return to work plan with everyone involved, including your manager, and they’ll monitor your progress towards your rehabilitation goals.
