The power of personal mindfulness

There are lots of things that cause us to rush or become distracted, which is why mindfulness can help us focus on the here and now in the face of these distractions.

When we think of mindfulness we often think of meditation – but mindfulness doesn’t have to be that formal. Mindfulness can be anything that helps us focus on the present and on what we are doing in the moment rather than the million other things that could be on our list of things to do. For example, when we drive mindfully, we focus on the driving.

Importantly, we know that when we practice doing activities mindfully:

  • Our stress reduces
  • Our energy improves
  • We tend to make better decisions
  • We make fewer errors, and
  • We are involved in fewer safety incidents
