Supporting Crime Stoppers
Crime Stoppers Australia recently launched a National Illicit Drugs campaign in an attempt to reduce the quantity of illicit drugs from making their way into the broader community.
With transport, freight and logistics being a key focus for criminals needing to transport illicit drugs into and across Australia, we are well placed to support them with their campaign.
They’re asking us all to feel empowered to say something if we see something suspicious in the community. Contacting Crime Stoppers is confidential, and people reporting something to them can choose to remain completely anonymous. Every illegal or illicit item that fails to make its way into any network can make a difference.
How you can help and what to look out for
There are a number of “red flags” to be on the lookout for and strange interactions that might indicate that someone is involved in an illegal activity. It might be nothing more than just a suspicion that something is not right. Perhaps it’s something you’ve seen that you feel is unusual. You can decide what and how much to share.
Red flags
- Have you or another team member been approached by a member of the public attempting to recruit you into an activity that you know isn't right?
- Or have they asked you to ignore something you know is wrong?
- Have you noticed deliveries being made to fake addresses or locations that appear to be vacant?
- Are you seeing misspellings or false names on label information or excessive tape on parcels?
- In retail settings, are you seeing customers in your outlets that pay to send parcels with large quantities of cash? (And do these transactions also feature the above? i.e., false names, excessive tape)
- Have you witnessed unusual behaviour, something that didn’t feel right?
If you see something, what can you do?
- You can anonymously share a tip online at crimestoppers.com.au or by phoning 1800 333 000
- Calls to Crime Stoppers are not recorded and IP addresses are not stored – so you can remain completely anonymous.
