Inside Australian Online Shopping Report 2024 now live!

We’re excited to unveil the 9th edition of our flagship Inside Australian Online Shopping Report, an in-depth study into consumer buying behaviours and trends.

The report was developed with our business customers in mind, delivering actionable recommendations and data-driven strategies to keep them ahead of the curve in a rapidly evolving online retail environment.

Here are some of the key insights:

  • Australians spent $63.6b online in 2023.
  • 9.5 million Australian households shopped online in 2023, that’s 82% of all Australian households, up 1.4% year-on-year.
  • Black Friday was this year’s standout event, seeing a huge 88% leap in number of online purchases compared to 2019, helping us to deliver one of our biggest peak periods ever.
  • Baby Boomers spent almost $1 billion more than they did last year, while Gen Z have been cutting back, choosing smaller budget-friendly options.

This year’s report was a result of strong collaboration from teams across Retail, Brand & Marketing, Parcel, Post & eCommerce Services, and Enterprise Services, and is packed with cutting-edge features aimed at advancing our Post26 Strategy.

Not only does it deliver comprehensive data but also brings it to life through an interactive online design, empowering users to consume content according to their preferences. Plus, social sharing buttons enable users, including our Sales teams, to share the report quickly and easily via their Facebook and LinkedIn profiles.

Through our partnership with Vision Australia and the use of AI-powered technology, the report has been designed to be accessible and adaptive to individual needs. These inclusions not only improve accessibility but underscore our commitment to inclusivity and user-centric design.

A new heat mapping tool will allow us to see exactly what people are looking at so we can gain insights and refine our approach for future reports.

A big thank you to everyone involved in developing this year’s eCommerce report!
