Donate to the Red Cross International Disaster Fund
We know some of our team members have strong connections with communities that have been impacted by the recent volcanic eruption and tsunami in Tonga. And many others want to do what they can to help.
With the response being managed by Tonga Red Cross, we’ve been advised by our National Community Partner – Australian Red Cross – that the best way we can offer support at this time is to encourage and enable donations of funds to the Red Cross International Disaster Fund.
Red Cross support for Tonga is informed by a locally led response and is appropriate to the needs and capacities on the ground. The funds received via donations so far have helped meet immediate relief needs including access to safe drinking water, shelter kits, blankets, kitchen items, and help with reconnecting family members as communications infrastructure is being repaired.
Red Cross is now awaiting the results of further needs assessments to better understand the long-term recovery requirements. While the situation is monitored, donations can still be made to the Red Cross International Disaster Fund. This enables Red Cross to be ready to support communities in disasters, crises and conflict around the world including Tonga and other regional partners in the Pacific.
To donate:
- Donations can be made directly to the Red Cross International Disaster Fund online.
- You can also support Red Cross and other charities via Workplace Giving with the chance to double your donation. As per standing arrangements, Australia Post will match Workplace Giving donations dollar for dollar up to $200 per person per year.
*Workplace Giving is open to all Australia Post Group team members with an employee number, and donations made through Workplace Giving are matched up to $200 per employee per annum.
